Flyover work to begin at Jedhe Chowk in Swargate, Pune

Flyover work to begin at Jedhe Chowk in Swargate, Pune

Work for the much needed flyover at Jedhe Chowk at Swargate will finally be underway from Saturday, the 20th of July.

The chowk is all set to have a 1.4-km-long flyover with two lanes, a grade separator and two pedestrian subways.

The grade separator has been proposed from Shankarsheth Road upto Sarasbaug.

Along with the flyover, two subways for pedestrians and one vehicular underpass will also be constructed. The two subways at Jedhe chowk will facilitate easy movement of pedestrians.

At the intersection of Shivaji Road and Tilak Road, a subway will come up for facilitating pedestrians to go to the ST stand located on the left side or the PMPML bus stops on the right side.

The second subway will be constructed between entry point of ST depot and the PMPML bus depot in order to help citizens getting in the ST bus stand or PMPML bus stop.

While making the vehicular traffic congestion-free a vehicular underpass is to be constructed on Shankarsheth Road going towards Sarasbaug.

On an average, every day 1,200 state transport (ST) buses ply through this junction. Besides, several Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses go 1,000 times through the chowk. This leads to a chaotic situation and makes pedestrians face an uphill task while crossing the roads. The construction of the flyover is all set from 20th July with an expected duration of 30 months at an estimated cost of Rs116 crore.

Jedhe Chowk in has been witnessing increasing number of vehicular traffic as well as movement of pedestrians due to the presence of MSRTC bus stand, a PMPML junction and two major roads towards Satara and Solapur cities.

Hope there are no more delays in its construction, and that the flyover will be completed speedily.
